COVID-19/Communicable Disease Prevention Guidelines
Our priorities are the health and safety of our clients, community and doing what we can to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and communicable diseases.
The province is now in Step 3 of the Restart Plan and there are no restrictions on outdoor sports or gatherings.
In line with communications from the Provincial Health Officer, South Island SUP requests the following:
** Please cancel or reschedule your booking if:
– You are not feeling well;
– You had contact with any person with, or under investigation for, COVID-19 in the last 14 days; or
– You or anyone from your household travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days and are not exempt from the mandatory quarantine.
** Exercise appropriate personal hygiene (wash/disinfect your hands before eating or touching your face; bring your personal hand sanitizer although there will be hand sanitizer available on site).
** Respect the personal space of others. Not everyone is fully vaccinated (14 days after dose 2) and everyone is moving forward at their own pace so it is important we consider people’s situations and comfort levels – not everyone will be ready to “lean in”.
** Please avoid congregating around the South Island SUP vehicle.
Feel free to call (778 679 1423) if you have any questions or comments. Thank you and we are looking forward to paddling with you in a safe and enjoyable way for all.
If you need to cancel a booking please do so at least 24 hours prior to the session. Sessions are rain or shine. Cancellations may happen anytime for safety and/or for health reasons.

Drysuits, Wetsuits, Boots and Gloves
Our Paddling Club has a good selection of drysuits, wetsuits, boots and gloves in a variety of sizes. If you have your own gear please bring it. If not please consider buying your own over time. Your Padding Club membership provides a 50% discount on drysuits and other gear. New and used drysuits and wetsuits are periodically available at a reduced price for club members.
Immersion Gear Care
Please be careful putting your gear on. Do not wear rings and other jewellery that could tear the gaskets or neoprene. Careful with finger nails too! The gaskets are fragile and expensive to replace. Wear board shorts or swimwear and a rash guard under wetsuits. Wear suitable layers under drysuits. Minimum light pants or leggings, long sleeve shirt and long socks. Colder weather – more layers. Merino wool or synthetic are great. Cotton not recommended.
Board Paddle Care
Please treat all gear like it is your own. Stay away from rocks. Paddles should not be used to push off from rocks unless an emergency. When launching carry your board from the land to the water. Make sure it is deep enough so the fin does not hit the ground and then get on your board kneeling. Come into the beach slowly and get off when the water is knee deep. Do not run it up onto the beach or rocks. If you find yourself in shallow water, kneel for safety, get off your board if necessary and relaunch in deeper water. When leaving the water, please keep the gear sand free and carry it to logs or other sand free area. We provide high quality gear in very good condition. Please help us keep our gear that way.
I am lucky enough to live in Victoria and joined South Island SUP as club a member this May and have never looked back. My husband and I have been paddling with the club a couple of times a week since May. We'd go more often but that's as much as we can squeeze in with our busy family and work life. I am sure that I would not be on the water nearly as often without the club which makes it so easy to get on the water. We usually go for the paddles at Willow's and Gonzales Beach and Oak Bay Marina. We've been several times to Brentwood Bay with the club - a highlight was swimming in bioluminescence this September, and did a challenging paddle out to Discovery Island one Sunday. Being with a group and with experienced guides mean we do way more on our boards than if we went on our own. SUP-ing has become part of our lives and has connected us to new friends and our local environment in a new way. We love it and are so grateful to Brian and Simon for creating this great club."
