Why is there a SUPBucks card associated with my membership?
Your SUPBucks card will save you $ on booking fees and your SUPBucks card preload will provide loyalty rebates as well!
You can reduce your booking fee to zero!
Just purchase online or send an e-transfer (brian@southislandsup.com) and we will preload (minimum $100).
We recommend you preload with enough $ each time to last for a month of paddling or longer. SUPBucks cards never expire!
How do loyalty points work?
Your SUPBucks top ups (preloads) will be added up at the end of the year.
You will receive in the form of loyalty points 5% of all top ups made by cash or e-transfer and 2% of all top ups made by credit card.
The loyalty points will be put toward the next year’s membership.
Any loyalty points remaining after application to the next year’s membership will be deposited to your SUPBucks card.
Why e-transfer for my SUPBucks card preload?
You can reduce your booking fee to zero by transferring $ to your card. E-transfers reduce fees for South Island SUP too! So it is a Win-Win.
How long does it take for an e-transfer to be added to my SUPBucks card?
SUPBucks card balances are usually updated in a few hours or less.
Please allow up to 24 hours for your top up by etransfer or credit card to be added to your card balance.
How do I check my SUPBucks card balance?
The best way to check your balance is to use the link in your SUPBucks top up email.
You can also send a text and we will send you the current balance as soon as possible.
We can also send a record of purchases if desired.
Alternatively you can test a booking with a few different ticket options to see if there are adequate funds. This will give you an approximate balance.
Does my SUPBucks card balance expire?
No. There is no expiration.
Can a SUPBucks card be used to purchase gear?
We prefer you only use your SUPBucks card for booking tours, lessons and rentals.
You can use your SUPBucks for purchase of some small items such as sunglass lanyards when booking your tour.
An e-transfer can be made to a different gift card that will allow South Island SUP online gear purchases.
Do I need to book online or can I just show up?
We appreciate you booking online.
Please book online as soon as possible before the start of a session so we can prepare for your arrival.
Booking at least 24 hours prior is recommended. Sessions and rental availabilities may be closed if there are no bookings at least 24 hours prior.

Please make your request at lease 24 hours prior and preferably 2-3 days or more ahead.
Member discounts do not apply to private sessions.

Immersion Gear Care
Wear board shorts or swimwear and a rash guard under wetsuits.
Wear wool or synthetic full socks, long pants and long sleeve shirt under the drysuit. More layers in cold weather.
Use care when putting on and taking off the drysuit.
Stand on something clean and dry on level ground to protect drysuit socks while putting on/taking off the drysuit.
Walk in the drysuit only with neoprene booties on.
Do not overstretch the drysuit neck and wrist seals; finger nails, rings, watches or other jewellery/sharp objects can tear the neoprene seals.
Double-check that the drysuit zipper slider is pulled snugly into the end of the zipper to ensure no leaks (many people leave the zipper a few cm from being fully closed). Check each other’s zippers as a final safety check.
If using for multiple days, drying the inside is more important than the outside.
Keep sand and other dirt away from zippers and the rest of the drysuit/wetsuit; rinse in lake/ocean if necessary.
Taking drysuit(s)/wetsuit(s) off inside out is great (keeps all the water inside).
Board & Paddle Care
Please treat all gear like it is your own.
Carry your board from the land into knee-deep water. Do not drag boards into the water. Before you get on the board in a kneeling position, make sure it is deep enough so the fin does not hit the ground.
Come into the beach slowly and get off the board from a kneeling position when the water is knee-deep. Do not run it up onto the beach or rocks.
If you find yourself in shallow water, kneel for safety, get off your board if necessary and relaunch in deeper water.
Do not press paddle blade into the ground or sand.
Do not use paddle to push off or away from objects unless it’s an emergency – stay away from rocks.
Rinse any sand/mud off equipment in lake/ocean if necessary.
Carry your rinsed board, paddle and leash from the water to logs, grass or other sand/mud free area before setting it down.
We provide high quality gear in very good condition. Please help us keep our gear that way.
